Sears Pioneers Electronic Signage

Sears, the US department store chain, is implemented Retail Enterprise Suite™ from global information technology services company, Episys in support of a number of in-store initiatives to reduce signage costs and boost promotional effectiveness.

Episys will pilot electronic signage in the electronics department to validate the benefits of electronic signage in a highly promotional environment. Episys’ Retail Enterprise Suite solution will drive electronic shelf-edge labels from ZBD in place of traditional printed labels, and automates the process of updating both price and product information using a simple wireless network.  The signage process will be automated via a central server which will update the ZBD shelf-edge devices, thus reducing the cost of managing traditional paper labels. ZBD's display technology combines zero-power LCD displays with a bounce communicator which can instantly update an entire shop floor of displays wirelessly.

The project will begin in the fall and will be running in time for the peak Thanksgiving period.

Peter Lewis, Marketing Director at Episys said, “We are delighted to be working with Sears and ZBD on these in-store initiatives.  In today’s competitive retail market it has been demonstrated that improvements in the signage system have been directly linked to increased turnover. Retail Enterprise Suite is a fully integrated signage system that uniquely provides increased efficiencies, reduced costs and a more responsive solution that gives our users a competitive edge.”

Episys has worked with Sears for a number of years and were named as a ‘Sears Partner in Progress’, in recognition of its significant contributions to the growth of Sears businesses and the creation of new ways to better serve Sears customers in 2005.

Episys, a private UK company, has made a significant impact in the US because of its ability to help retailers to boost sales from promotions by integrating both physical and digital merchandising signage, as well as cut expenditure currently lost through duplicated, inaccurate and inconsistent processes.
