Episys prescribes perfect labelling remedy for Neath Port Talbot Hospital
Neath Port Talbot Hospital, part of the ABM University Health Board, one of the largest in Wales, has successfully implemented the Ultimate™ labelling system from Episys, the global information technology solutions and services company, to ensure patient safety in the administration of drug dispensing.
Richard Williams, Production Manager, Pre-Packing and Labelling Units, Neath Port Talbot Hospital, said, "The over labelling and pre-packing unit for the Trust has been centralised at Neath Port Talbot Hospital. We needed to find a labelling solution that would provide us with a good, safe, stable system with backup and support where we can call on expert advice if needed."
The hospital embarked on a selection process, and received a number of recommendations to talk to Episys. This led to a visit to the 2009 Global Signage Labelling Convention, hosted by Episys, where the hospital had the opportunity to network with other businesses using the Episys Ultimate™ solution.
Williams continued, "The Ultimate™ solution is a complete package that we could buy off the shelf and then tailor to our needs. I also learnt that it was fast becoming the standard system for the industry and we wanted to be a part of that."
Neath Port Talbot Hospital is exploiting the worksheet option in the Ultimate™ solution, as it needs to produce labels and worksheets at the same time. It was unable to do this with its previous system, which could have potentially left room for error, if the wrong labels were attached to the wrong worksheet. Now, the process is done as a one stop, single exercise, improving the safety of the system.
"Security was a very important consideration when selecting the system," said Williams. "We wanted a system that the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) would be happy with, and the feedback from other users demonstrated that the MHRA are indeed happy with the Episys Ultimate™ solution. We now have a system that's robust, with the support that we need, with experts at the end of the phone, providing the answers we need."
Peter Lewis, Episys Marketing Director, said, "Neath Port Talbot Hospital joins our network of hospitals that rely on Ultimate™ software to ensure patient safety when labelling medicines."
