Episys prescribes increased patient safety in drug administration

Staten Island University Hospital is trialing the Ultimate labeling system from Episys, the global information technology solutions and services company, in a bid to increase patient safety in the administration of drug dispensing.
If successful, Staten Island University Hospital plans to implement the Episys solution across both campuses.
Michael Coyne, Associate Vice President at Staten Island University Hospital, said, "Introducing a system like this into Staten Island Hospital will improve patient safety and that is our main objective. We intend to trial the Episys Ultimate solution for the preparation of anesthetic syringes in the operating theatre. When labels are produced they are placed on the vial or ampoule readily available to label the syringe when the drug is drawn."
Coyne continued, "Safety is our priority. An unlabeled syringe can be extremely dangerous. By working with Episys we will improve our processes, and this will be a huge benefit to us."
Peter Lewis, Episys Marketing Director said, "We are fortunate to have the opportunity to demonstrate to Staten Island University Hospital our capabilities in this area. They join a number of other healthcare customers already enjoying the benefits of the Episys Ultimate solution."
